How To Care For Contact Lenses

Posted by admin | January 01, 2017

If you’re new to needing contact lenses, it’s vital that you know how best to look after them so that you don’t damage them or hurt your eyes. Without the proper care, you could end up with a fungal eye infection, so make sure your optician tells you exactly what you need to do to help prevent this.

Luckily, it’s not especially difficult to keep your soft contact lenses in good condition. Before handling them, make sure you wash your hands first so that you don’t transfer any dirt or bacteria to your eye. Don’t use a moisturising soap as this could damage the lenses and always dry your hands with a lint-free towel so you don’t end up with fluff in your eye.

Take one lens out of your eye and use your cleaning solution to clean it properly. This will remove and dirt and debris that might have built up around the lens and which may cause you discomfort. Consider rubbing the lens gently in the palm of your hand with a couple of drops of the solution to really get it clean.

Rinse it once again to remove the debris properly, then put it in a clean contact lens case or holder and fill it up with more fresh solution. It’s important that you tip out the old solution before this step, or you could leave bacteria behind. Repeat these steps for the second lens.

As you can see, it’s not hard to do but it is important that you do it if you want to protect your eyes.
